We Came for the Food teammates Mitchell Baker (left to right), Ryan Litwin, Alexander Borse and Owen Poloski won the annual Funspiel at the Winnipeg Beach Curling Club on March 27. They finished tied with Team Broom for Two but were declared victorious because of a better team aggragate draw to the button. Submitted Photo

The Winnipeg Beach Curling Club hosted its annual Funspiel on March 27.

This year’s event featured eight teams, with Team We Came for the Food leaving as the winners.

After three games apiece, We Came for the Food and Broom for Two were tied. However, a draw to the button, held after the first of three draws, had We Came for the Food with a closer team distance and they were crowned champions.

Team To Be Determined won the closest-to-the-button competition with a combined distance of 300 inches, and Jillian Mozdzen — on the same team — was the closest individual with a draw that finished just 10 inches from the centre.

The prize for best team name was a difficult one for the committee to decide on, with names such such as Throwing Rocks at Houses, Broom for Two and Lords of the Rings, but the award went to the honour to Under Piggies.

The Town also wants to thank Larry Moore for volunteering his time again as he always does. This year marks his 49th year running and organizing Winnipeg Beach’s kids after-school curling program.
