St. Laurent product and Interlake Thunder defensive back Eric Zotter had a game to remember against the Southwest Sabres on Sept. 27.

Zotter had three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and four pass knockdowns during the Thunder’s 33-20 win over the Sabres at Stonewall Collegiate Institute. With the win, Interlake improved to 4-0 for the season and is still undefeated since joining the Rural Manitoba Football League last year. However, the 13-point margin of victory by the Thunder was their smallest this season.

Interlake opened the game with a 6-0 lead after the first quarter, but later outscored Southwest 20-8 in the second for a 26-8 halftime lead. The Thunder scored another touchdown in the third quarter but the Sabres put up 12 unanswered points in the fourth.

Thunder pivot Josh Charison was nine-for-22 passing for 163 yards and a touchdown to receiver Carter Fuerst. Brady Delaroque carried the ball 17 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns, while Fuerst added 100 rushing yards and 58 receiving yards for the Thunder.

Zotter also led his team with eight tackles while Aden McLean made seven for Interlake. Chase Riddle recorded an interception and Alex Luke had the Thunder’s only quarterback sack in the contest.

Interlake will take on the Neepawa Tigers at Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute on Oct. 4 before returning to SCI for its game against the Dauphin Clippers on Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
