Lakeside takes Hockey Manitoba midget B title

The Lakeside Falcons went undefeated at the Hockey Manitoba Male Midget B Provincial Championship, capping it with a 5-4 win over the hosts from Landmark in the gold-medal game on March 17.

Jaxon Pilon scored a hat trick in the contest, with Riley Wirgau and Devon Torgerson also finding the back of the net for the Falcons.

Lakeside opened with a 5-3 win over Landmark on March 15 and blanked Cranberry Portage 10-0 on March 16. In the semifinal, the Falcons routed Steinbach 8-1 with a pair of goals from each of Pilon, Wirgau and Nolan Smith. Carson Gudmundson and Logan Miller also scored for Lakeside.

Peguis atoms take bronze

After falling in the semifinal earlier in the day, Peguis captured bronze with an 8-7 triumph over Brandon in the Hockey Manitoba Atom A Provincial Championship in Rivers on March 17.

Brock Cook netted five goals and added three assists for Peguis. Adam Sutherland chipped in with two goals and Trent Forster also scored for Peguis.

The team started the tournament with a 5-2 win over Rat River and a 7-5 victory over St. Adolphe on March 15. The next day, Peguis defeated Rivers 7-5 in the quarter-final with Cook and Corwyn Bear each potting a hat trick.
Sutherland also scored.

Peguis’ luck ran out with a 15-5 loss to Carman in the semifinal. Tallon Sutherland scored twice; Bear and Laiden Sutherland added goals for Peguis.
