A strong power play wasn’t enough to save the Peguis Juniors from giving up nearly a dozen goals in Game 2 of the Keystone Junior Hockey League final at the Peguis Multiplex on March 30.

Dennis Scatch, Keith Monias and Justin Dorion each dented the twine twice for the Cross Lake Islanders, who scored six goals in the second period en route to an 11-6 victory to knot up the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.

Cross Lake was only up by one entering the middle frame before exploding for six goals, including one with the man advantage and a pair while down a man.

When the final buzzer sounded, the Islanders had surrendered four power-play goals on eight Peguis chances, but mustered three short-handed goals themselves, while adding a pair of power-play markers.

Armando Evans, Braeden Monias, Kadin Ross, Tristen Haldron and Quinton Scatch each added singles for Cross Lake.

Ethan Daniels led the way for the Juniors with four goals and an assist, while Tyrome Spence-Blair recorded two markers and one helper. Quinton Flett had three assists.

Dray Flett stopped 43 shots in between the pipes for Peguis, while Seth Ningeongan made 39 saves in net for the Islanders.

The Juniors opened the KJHL final with a 9-4 victory on home ice in the series opener on March 29.

Spence-Blair and Quinton Flett both tallied two markers and an assist as Peguis struck for three goals in each period.

Lyle Murdock, Travis McPherson, Kennan McPherson, Tyler Ross and Darian Murdock also found the back of the net for the Juniors.

Scatch led Cross Lake with two goals, with Dorion and Clinton Armstrong adding singles.

Flett turned aside 35 shots, while Peter Ross and Jamie Anderson combined to make 27 saves for the Islanders.

The series now shifts to the Cross Lake Sports Complex for Games 3, 4 and 5 on April 5, 6 and 7, respectively.

If necessary, Game 6 will be in Peguis on April 12 at 8 p.m., with Game 7 taking place in Cross Lake on April 14.
