A crowd entertainer for decades, Dennis Nykoliation is no stranger to the spotlight.

The former Interlake resident will once again find himself under the warm spotlight glow for a completely different reason than singing on stage with his band.

Nykoliation has been inducted into the Canadian Hardware and Housewares Manufacturing Association Hall of Fame. This represents the second hall of fame honour for the former president and general manager of Black & Decker Canada.

Nykoliation was inducted into the CHHMA hall of fame during a luncheon in Mississauga, Ont., on April 2.

“It is very humbling to find myself in the company of such industry giants as the Billes family of Canadian Tire, Walter Hachborn of Home Hardware, Leonard Lee of Lee Valley Tools, and Richard Paulin, Paulin Fasteners, to name a few,” Nykoliation told The Interlake Spectator. “I am deeply honoured.”

The Fisher Branch product has an extensive resume in the hardware industry as a former president and CEO of CanWel Building Products. He also served as president and general manager of GSW Building Products.

Nykoliation is a well-known Manitoba musician whose roots go back to the 1960s when he was a member of The Interlake Polka Kings band. He was named to the Manitoba Fiddle Association Wall of Fame in 2017.

Nykoliation has fronted The Dennis Nykoliation Band since 2008 and the band has been honoured by the Ukrainian Musicians Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.

The band has performed at over 300 events across Manitoba and Saskatchewan and plays a wide range of music including, ‘olde tyme’ fiddle music, Ukrainian, country and rock classics.  Nykoliation has recorded 15 albums over the years.
