Details about Sudbury’s Burger Wars will be revealed Tuesday, July 23, during a press conference at the Northern Water Sports Centre.

Burger Wars will be held during the month of August at 33 participating local restaurants where $1 from each chosen burger sold will be donated to the NEO Kids Foundation.

The community is encouraged to try as many chosen restaurant burgers as possible then vote online on at the website www.sudburyburgerwars.com/.

Mitch Speigel, an event organizing committee member, said in a release he saw the idea while visiting Wolfville, N.S.

“Every restaurant, and there are many, had a poster and tent cards advertising their special burger. For every one of these burgers sold, a dollar would be going to a local children’s charity,” he said. “What fun. I even tried a sweet-and-sour burger at the Chinese restaurant.

“Apparently, the idea was borrowed from PEI and I thought to myself, why not reborrow the concept for Sudbury? I had to find a doer and made the lucky choice of Jana Schilkie. The rest is history and our own home-grown Burger Wars month begins Aug. 1. Enjoy and vote carefully.”

NEO Kids, located at Health Sciences North, treats sick children from Sudbury and across Northern Ontario.

Restaurants include Alexandria’s, Apollo Restaurant, Bella Vita Cucina, Buzzy Brown’s, East Side Mario’s (Lasalle location), Fionn MacCool’s, First Round Sports Bar, Gus’s Restaurant, Hourglass Restaurant, Kelseys, La Casa Mexicana, Lot 88 Steakhouse & Bar, MIC, Milestones and Montanas.
