For the last five years, Sabor restaurant owners Christian Mena and chef Lino Oliveira have spent August celebrating sustainable seafood during the Sabor Seafood Festival, hosted in collaboration with Ocean Wise.

Now, the duo launches this annual event with a meal curated for Food Day Canada by Calgary cookbook writer Julie Van Rosendaal and Ontario cookbook author Emily Richards. The special meal also marks 10 years in business for Sabor, and will focus on family-style comfort foods made with local ingredients and sustainable seafood. The price is $125 per person, including wine, tax and tip, and tickets are available at

Other events throughout the month at the restaurant include Fish ‘n Chip Fridays in support of the Bissell Centre and Ronald McDonald House, plus a $95 dinner inspired by the spice and trade routes of India featuring Kelowna chef Aman Dosanj on Monday, Aug. 12 (tickets for this latter event are also on eventbrite).

The last hurrah of the month of festive eating happens on Monday, Aug. 26 when an Ocean Wise Finale Dinner will be presented, featuring Latin and Asian-inspired dishes. The two chefs creating the menu for the event are Rogelio Herrera (of Calgary’s Alloy) and Edmonton’s own Edgar Gutierrez of the popular Filipino street food restaurant, Kanto 98.

Tickets to all events available via Eventbrite or by calling Sabor at 780-757-1114. Sabor is at 10220 103 St.
