Karen Van Wyk, is a medical professional gearing up for a big move back home to South Africa. Her hair was in need of some major TLC.  She had hair extensions that were overgrown that needed to be removed, and wanted a colour and style refresh.

Karen has long and naturally dark-brown hair, which was previously highlighted blond. We wanted to create a low maintenance “lived-in” colour that would lighten and brighten her overall colour.

We started by removing her hair extensions with an oil-based solvent. Once removed, I applied weave foil highlights around her face and throughout her hair to brighten her colour. I then applied a cool-brown permanent colour to her background foundation to bump up her dark base colour, followed by adding a cool beige-blond colour refinement on her ends. This creates a soft and natural looking root-smudge effect while toning down her brassy blond mid-lengths and ends.

I shampooed her hair with KMS Moist Repair — Shampoo and Conditioner for moisture repair and manageability. I added KMS Moist Repair — Revival Crème through her hair, as a leave-in conditioner and cut it into a diagonal forward one-length long bob. I incorporated soft layers for added movement and texture.

Before styling, I applied KMS Free Shape — Hot Flex Cream, for heat activated smoothing and shaping, then blow dried her hair using a round brush. I finished her style with KMS Hair Play — Dry Wax, for dimensional texture.

Makeup

We gave Karen a makeup lesion to show her how to create a pretty, everyday look for work. We evened out her complexion with a lightweight BB Cream and gave her face a light dusting of bronzing powder. We used copper-brown tones to contour and enhance her beautiful blue eyes and filled in her eyebrows to frame her face. To finish, we chose a coral-pink blush and lips to compliment her skin tone.
